Does anyone know if broadband is really coming to Hambleden?
I heard about it at the pub!......a fiber optic connection to the village and back into the copper wires from there on.?
Is it true that we should have it by November. Or, was it the 'drink' that was talking?
I can not find anything on it on Google. Rolling Eyes

That's a very good question and I'm trying to organise someone to give you the answer.

If only life was simple!

Sorry to be so long in replying but I have been ill. There is a Committee that was set up in 2003 to obtain Broadband (BB) for all of the Hambleden Valley. Parts of the valley (Skirmett, most of Frieth, Turville, most of Ibstone and parts of Hambleden) now have BB but some areas are too far away from the Henley telephone switch to provide BB. The Committee has been working with BT for the past 2 years to try and obtain the service. Steve Proffitt who is the prime mover for the Committee reported to the Parish Council at the August meeting. BT Openreach has carried out an engineering survey of the Hambleden/Mill End/Medmenham area and advised that the area has some of the worst infrastructure in the UK and that it would take some £1.5M to update it. BT is now proposing that its latest BB high speed service with network upgrading could be done for Hambleden but that a Service Provider ie Tiscali, BT Retail etc would have to sign up to provide first a trial with the new technology next year for Henley and Hambleden and then if successful, a full roleout of service. There is more information in the Parish Council August meeting minutes. Needless to say, more talks are continuing with various parties. For even more information, Steve Proffitt can be reached on 01491 571 479.
