What would you do?

What is the one thing that you would do or change that you think would improve the quality of everyone's life in the Parish?

If I could do one thing to improve life for the people of Marlow, it would be letting residents have some input as to which new retailers they would like to see trading on the High Street. Whilst I know this may be a utopian idea, I find the demise of so many of our local family businesses really sad and this is compounded by the entry into the town of corporate organizations we may neither want nor need.

Also signage. Recently some truly horrible shop fascias have been appearing which make the High Street look tacky. Let's see traders compelled to display their shop fronts sympathetically in a way which enhances the look of the town rather than make it look like just
'AnyTown'.

I agree that we appear to be losing too many useful if not essential retail businesses from Marlow, but the day residents actually have any real influence on the situation will be a 'Red Letter Day' and cause for much celebration.

Unfortunately market forces will always rule in Marlow and those retailers with the biggest pockets will more or less determine what kind of outlets we have in the High Street; maybe a few more coffee shops?

At the end of the day, only those businesses that have sufficient patronage and can make a sizable profit will survive in Marlow. The rents and rates are inevitably going to rise rather than stand still or be reduced which means probably more of our long established and or/useful retailers deciding to call it a day.
